Oh boy… Tula come and stay with me until the magic comes back!
Time for Mentl to gear up…
Aw poor Tula…. But perhaps, yeah it’s not up to her this time… Perhaps it’s up to Mentl to go back to Erogenia…. I thought for a second that she was upset with Mentl… is she?
Mentl will definitely have to provide the mojo, but he’ll need the book for sure.
Did I miss something or wasn’t Nan holding the book for them?
No, Nan is holding Zona’s sword. They took the book with them.
http://barbarianprincess.com/?p=747 I claim no responsibility for time lost re-reading from there forward. I managed to resist, but only because it’s late in the evening.
And I just noticed… was it REALLY two years ago that they landed in San Berdo? (I think that’s how Zona said it.) Wow…….
I still feel like holding you accountable for the hour I spent reading through.
I’ve got space at my place if Tula needs a place to crash.
And yeah, I agree with the general sentiment that they will probably need both Mentl and the book to get back. The question is whether Tula and Mentl can figure out the book so they can get back. They have already tried hard with Tula learning as many languages as possible, so she can read whatever the book changes into.
Which is probably not the right way to go at it, anyway. Remember, her mentor (forgot his name, the monk) could “talk” with the book without knowing all these languages, and he told her that “they” like to talk in riddles and limericks – so I guess the trick is to find the pattern behind the seeming nonsense, not pile up knowledge of foreign languages.
Agreed, instead of treating it as a tool to be learned and used, they need to ask nicely.
Well, I didn’t say I agreed with their current approach. I agree they need to change tactics to get through to the book, but how to do it is still a mystery.
Tula … always fun ay parties.
But, I am some confuse. I assumed from the beginning that Mentl would be the one to take them back. It seemed obvious that Tula’s power would fade once outside her homeworld, based upon previous news & events in the storyline. In fact, I would have been much more surprised if her Moon magic had persisted in “our” universe.
Mentl has the raw power and more to spare. I’m surprised they don’t already have a plan in place to return. Figured they were taking “just one last day” to say farewell and they’d be stepping through the fabric of the universe in the next installment or two.
The Book must have something else required of them before they can return, some item(s) or task or both from this side before they are ready to engage in events on the other.
Well, if it works like it did when Tula and Zona got to San Berdo, then all they have to do is find the right song to take them back (I’m guessing they’ve got the intention right anyway). Hmmm, maybe “Country Roads”? Though I guess they’d have to substitute West Virginia with Erogenia – works though, doesn’t it?
Don’t worry, Tula. That’s Mentl’s job, and the book’s.
Maybe that blue box thingy in the spin off comic could take them back?
Seriously… If we all think Mentl is the one to send them back, he won’t be. My current bet will be that Zona will do it somehow.
That’s not impossible. After all, the book is doing the work, and so if the two magic-users are too full of themselves, perhaps Zona could approach the book more humbly. But Tula knows the book wants its agency respected, and Mentl isn’t exactly an egomaniac. So while having Zona do it instead of them would be hard to set up in a way that didn’t ring false.
But perhaps the Book might insist that all three of them say please together or something. But it isn’t necessary that every step in the plot has to be an unexpected twist.
Mentl may have to reach back in his repertoire to pull off a return-trip to Erogonia. Might I suggest a little John Denver? “Take Me Home Country Roads” may do the trick.
Country roads, take me home to the place I belong.
EROGENIA, mountain momma, take me home, country roads.
As I see it:
- Mentl has the power.
- Tula has the talent.
- Neither will succeed until they work together, & ask the Book – politely.
Well played, Zero. Well Played.
Prepare for the hookup of a lifetime.
I figured Mentl would be doing the heavy lifting since his power is apparent. Kinda disappointed in Tula who should know that if Mentl went once, he can go back.
Just takes the right song.
I’m partial to Fantasy or Cruisin by Earth Wind and Fire, or “long and Winding Road by the Beetles,..
I’m sure the book will be able to get them back. But today’s page gives Mentl a motive to get together with the book and do it, before Tula turns into a turnip.
In the first panel, Mentel’s face is wrong on so may levels. Especially that smile.
Jed, I’m most pleased that Zona, Mentl & Tula have let everyone know that, yes indeed, not only was Mentl living on another plane of existence for a while, but they’ve come from that very spot, and here’s proof, in case you need it.
In short, they now have a support network set up in San Berdo, full of friends and family to back up their mission.
Jed I meant to say this much earlier but here goes anyway. The third panel tickles my funny bone. I can almost hear the the sad two tone Wah-waaahhh, when I look at it.
