I think that she isn’t recognizing her limits. I think Mentl needs to step up. The book was given to him. He’s the enchanter. He needs to grab his axe and do his thing.
Plus I’m first. I guess there’s some benefit to being on the other side of the world.
Google “Faraday cage” and the ‘ant problem’ should become manageable, possibly even eliminate it.
Also, Tula needs to get laid, probably about as much as she needs sleep. Effects of the last one appear to be wearing off. Yeah, yeah. I get it. I just proposed she get laid inside a Faraday cage.
NOT that there’s anything wrong with that!
And thus a new fetish was born…
There’s no button for it but… “like”
Plus she’s been drinking Pepsi. That never turns out well!
Tula needs a tinfoil hat to keep the radiation out
Tinfoil wouldn’t look good on her. I’m thinking a copper mesh pot scrubber all stretched out evenly. Copper would look good on her.
I know we all know Tula is amazing, but how can no-one be responding to her gripe that she can ONLY read two pages at a glance.
My worry is that what is stretched to the breaking point is Tula’s sanity, and none of the characters are picking up on it.
I LOVE the quote!
Well, this universe is clearly parallel to ours. Banana computers! I love it!
Wait, Banana computers? This is the same dimension as Bloom County.
Mentel, can you ‘turn off the ants’ and still leave the computer on? The energy just from electricity in the house is a buzz none of you’d realize unless you’ve lived without it for a few months, much less the constant roar of cars and planes when you think it is quite at night.
Perhaps this is when they all learn that everyone, and everything, has limits. Maybe it is the book’s way of testing Tula-and bringing home a lesson at the same time. I agree, she needs the knowledge, but how good will she be when they get back to Erogenia? Will they go back to the cave WHEN they left it? If a fight is in the offing when they get back, Zona will be more than happy to bust some reptilian skulls-but will Tula’s abilities be hampered due to no sleep and the ants in her head that will go away with time but will most likely still be there at first?
Time, and JED, will tell.
JED: In you’re little innie quote there, I think “There’s a thin line between genius and madness” also works here.
The thing to do is to let the book do its work, without delay, and not try to figure it out and control it; it’s already established that the book is not a simple tool to be used.
I agree with the others who have noted that Tula is clearly overextending herself.
Got tied up in other things tonight. Will update Tuesday!
I just can’t shake the feeling that they are going about it fundamentally wrong. I mean, Tula and Zona got there by Tula singing “California dreaming” of what appeared as a page of the book. So why shouldn’t they be able to get back the same way? Because no song has been written about Erogenia yet? But what about what Vito said: Focus, intent, will? At the moment, it looks like Tula is so immersed, she can’t see where she’s going any longer.
