NARRATOR: The Fire Tribe. A feast night to welcome the return of Pontagar and the other Fire Tribe champions.
First Dance. One young person’s heart is hurting.

PORCHA: Cirina? What are you just sitting there for? Are you not feeling well?

CIRINA: Porcha. I … I just don’t feel like dancing.

PORCHA: Doesn’t seem like you to miss First Dance. Surely at least five or six people must have asked you …

CIRINA: Well ... not the one I wanted.

PORCHA: Ah. Pontagar?

CIRINA: Yeah … he chose Lentik …

Reveal Pontagar dancing with a slender, muscular young fire Tribe boy and apparently having a grand time.

PORCHA: Oh. Well, that is disappointing for you. I’m sorry.

  1. I did not see the scene change coming like this. I thought we would go back to Laemul again from his flash back to present day.
Interesting to see that Pontagar has a diverse taste; I think this is the first time we’ve seen him show any interest in a man. Lentik probably feels very lucky. 😉

  2. Yuck!

    1. Prejudice hurts those who hold it more than it hurts those you want to hurt.

Sure, you have white straight cis privilege, but that privilege is really weak compared to what we’d *all* have if we could work together without greed or hate. War makes victims of us all. At least the rest of us understand this.

      1. Well said. 🙂 Err on the side of love and compassion and make the world a better place in the process.

  3. So prince Pontagar is either homo or bi.
Come to think of it, given what we know about the whole concept of prejudice amongst the Fire Tribe, I am surprised by how smoothly his preferences go with everyone.
(Well, everyone except Cirina, that is).

    1. Sexism and homophobia operate on very different axes of prejudice. The Ancient Greeks were extraordinarily misogynistic, but took that in the direction of ‘women aren’t even worth having sex with’ and ‘the only real romantic love is between men’. I don’t think the Fire Tribe go quite that far, but cultural acceptance of homosexuality can easily be paired with misogyny.

  4. Cue Cirina joining the penguins on the shore of Antarctica. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eoy9PUR–E4

    1. Indeed. :-3
