  1. Good! A hero who has earned to *not* be full of himself!

Also, Zona learning, with whatever degree of irritation, that whatever the rational situation is, fathers lean *strongly* to a norm of interest in daughters.

    1. Well, he has learned the hard way not to be full of himself. But Mentl’s bait could still have triggered a (knee-)jerk reaction in him, so I agree that he did right. One baby step on the road to reconciliation with Zona?

  2. Oooohh, wrong words Zonn. Zona does not need your blessing?

    1. Ding! Anything he earned with the first half of the comment he dug himself in deeper on the second half. That’s going to get him another punch I think.

Zonn, here, have a large glass of “Shut the fuck up.”

      1. Perhaps. Saying you give someone your blessing doesn’t necessarily mean that you thought they required or wanted it. If you want to heal the world, take such blessings with a shrug and an exasperated eye roll. Mentl already gave as good as he got.

    2. It’s a good thing Zonn’s mouth is so big, you can still understand what he is saying when he puts his foot into it.

      1. It takes more than a big mouth to be able to enunciate properly with ones foot in it. It takes a lot of practice. I’m fairly sure Zonn’s got that covered, though, from what we have heard of him.

  3. Cue the eruption of “I DON’T NEED OR WANT YOUR BLESSING!” in three… two… one…

    1. Along with a punch that sends him flying and puts Chera back to work healing him again.

  4. Good to see that Mentl’s off to a good start with Zonn, and I expect Tula will get along well with Chera. Will be interesting to see how the new tribe is faring overall. What are the odds that Zona has a few little siblings to meet?

  5. Heh, don’t break him, Zonn. Zona will not be happy with you if you do so. 😛

I suppose both Zonn and Chera will look at Mentl in a new way when they find out he’s a mage.

    1. Yeah, Zona’s the only one who’s allowed to break Mentl’s ribs.

    2. It looks like Mentl broke Zonn for a moment there, but he recovered quickly…I’ll give Zonn some credit for his resiliency.

  6. I love the “two out of three, Dad”! TOO funny– and we know it’s true, too!

    1. We know Mentl is strong in the nether regions, but Zonn might well be too. Or have we had information at some point that he had more stamina than spear? I can’t remember any.

      1. Zonn probably is. While there are many outliers, as I understand it, there’s a positive correlation between the two sizes, so long as you don’t muck up your body chemistry to get your body size (and even then, it depends on what chemicals you muck it up with and possibly how much). That said, my experience with guys of that size challenged in that way by guys of Mentl’s size, it’s likely there will be no verification performed, unless it’s performed by Ipola. And even then, it’s doubtful that anyone besides Zona would hear of the results.

Just being brazen enough to make the claim gets Mentl a lot of points with a certain type of guy, and Zonn seems like he might be that type. Of course, it also loses points with others, so…

  7. I’m afraid Zonn is going to get another free fly in a few seconds… If I interpret correctly Zona’s face of course.

  8. That Mentl…He’s such a charmer. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

No wait! He’s an Enchanter, very good at charm*ing*

  9. And suddenly I’m remembering Mentl and Pontagar.

“Don’t give us none of your aggravation…”

  10. This is belated and off topic JED, but I *really* like how you illustrate Zona’s best hits.
The “POW”‘s and “C-CRACKK”‘s are brilliant.
    Happy Holidays.

  11. Yeah, I also read Zona’s frown in the last panel as “I don’t need no stinking blessing!” Unless she’s just still angry that he thinks he was warranted a say about her choice in panel 3.

Also, I love Chera’s sideways look at Zonn in the third panel. “‘Really?’?” By the way, who else feels she looks like a fuller-figured Kristin Scott Thomas? (The one falling in love with Ralph Fiennes in The English Patient, among lots of other films.)

  12. So Zonn’s a fan of the salty humor, eh? Guy’s not all bad then.

  13. Am I right that Zona is saying they are Silver bonded only until Ipola is informed?
I thought they were Gold Bonded- is that just until the Moon tribe recognizes it?

    1. Can’t be gold-bonded until first five years of silver-bonding.

    2. I thought so too, so I archive dived (by the way, JED, after a while to get used to that new selection list, I love using it and it works wonders, congratulations!) and found that yes, they are silver-bonded: https://barbarianprincess.com/comic/love-triumphant/page-800/

I think Tula knows Ipola better than any of us, and if she says the queen won’t annul the bond, I believe her.

(That being said, there would be a point to be made about Zona going in search of Mentl, following her heart instead of her Queen’s orders, not unlike a certain fellow in her parentage. I wonder if Pontagar, for instance, will make such a point when they are all reunited. I can see Yatta-Ta and Fiz, among others, having to concede the point…)

Descartes, I don’t have access to Tula’s explanations about bronze, silver and gold bonds, but I believe you. Thanks for reminding us!

      1. The idea of Pontagar standing next to Zonn and execrating his daughter for doing what Zonn himself did, seems a little far-fetched. Few like Pontagar will diss legends like Zonn to their face, at least not more than once. That, and even Pontagar is growing, however grudgingly.

  14. I wonder if Zona has any brothers or sisters lying around. After all Zonn likes the ladies from what I remember and he’s had 20 years.

  15. How do you know you have a larger wiener than Zonn, Michael? 😛
