  1. I have long maintained that there is no drama like family drama.

  2. That was actually pretty good for Zona. I don’t recall her getting quite that amount of distance in most of her recent fights. Of course, she had a lot of pent-up emotion in that.

Also, I love Mentl’s, Tula’s and Chera’s reactions. They all watched quite calmly. I half expected them to hold up signs with points for style.

    1. Score cards were in the last panel… It was edited out to fit the space πŸ™‚

    2. Score cards would have been a bit much. But only a bit.

      1. Besides, we don’t have any Urrts here to play the part of an East German judge.

    3. Let’s see, according to Mentl, Tula, and Chera’s gestures, I’d say Zona got in a nice trajectory…Good hang-time…
      All in all,…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5U6WlTiIYQ

  3. Ahh, …yes, …family history. I do know the problems, even in mirror opposition. Now we will get to see how well it goes in healing this hurt. Since this shows up in Zona only now, we can wonder how he will greet, and be greeted, by his son, Thann. The effects on cooperation may be long-lived, or not, in either case.

The key here is that the Sun Tribe has taken to calling Zonn “Lord” at some time in the last 20 years, even if he is apparently not fully comfortable with that. His interaction with the divine, that led to his founding the Sun Tribe, may have something to do with that, or it may be the influence of surrounding populations of non-Erogenians. It could be a combination. Dunno. One thing of note is that Chera does not freak out at a bit of violence. So Erogenian attitudes are still significant. He’s hardly an old duffer by any means.

  4. TY, TY, TY!!! I have been waiting to see these panels ever since you posted the story of Zonn and Ipola…. =D

It makes perfect sense too…travel back to their world provided a great way to get them in proximity to the Sun Tribe.

  5. I was worried for a second that Zona might have just caused an international incident, but judging from Chera’s reaction, she probably recognizes he had that coming.

    1. Jarin: Remember how Zonn originally acted and consider that the Sun Tribe has had twenty years of him. That is probably why Chera’s reaction is not as much surprise as resigned acceptance.

Also, her last remark makes me suspect that she is Zonn’s assigned healer and that it is her job to put any broken bones he may sustain together. This may also explain her concern for his back on the page before this one. If true, it would not shock me to learn that she has already had a lot of practice at mending his injuries.

    2. Also, https://barbarianprincess.com/comic/conflict-resolution-erogenian-style/page-294/ and the next two indicate that knocking people about is a socially accepted way of discussing controversies in Erogenia.

I remember there’s a rather early page somewhere in which someone (typically Ipola, but it might be Tula or someone else) tells Zona to play nice with Kivalians and she replies that “they break – the little darlings” but I can’t find it right now.

Ah yes, I get it now, it was neither Ipola nor Tula, but the Hawk tribe priest: https://barbarianprincess.com/comic/honor-and-duty/page-459/ . (I can’t remember him, and I have read all the chapters that deal with him, or might: Slings and Arrows, Getting Organized, Honor and Duty, With Vengeful Stroke, Battlefield Confession, the beginning of Hollywood Ending, even Papers and Politics or Forward Looking and Return, and I can’t find his name anywhere.)

Reminds me of “A Boy Named Sue”

  7. x

I’ve wondered for a long time if and when they’d meet – and this is priceless!

I had to clean my screen and keyboard – well worth it!

Thank You for the belly-aching laugh πŸ™‚

Given just how much like Zonn she is in her own behavior, I’m honestly the tiniest bit surprised at Zona’s reaction.

Not much, granted, but some. Perhaps hearing about the Sun’s orders for him and his people obligated him to stay where he is will help mollify her, but I really doubt it.

Oh! They’re almost certainly going to spar later! That will be awesome, if it’s on camera. Hrm. She already had one kickass sparring session with Yatta Ta, we’re unlikely to get another one in the middle of the story. Rats.

    Still, interesting things ahead.

  9. … Don’t call me daughter, not fit to
The picture kept will remind me
Don’t call me daughter, not fit to
The picture kept will remind me…

  10. That last panel. Aw yeah. I love Tula and Mentl’s subdued manner.

Also, I feel that Tula’s face in panel 1 is really close to Ipola’s youth, for some reason. Also, she displays yet another occurrence of dazzling intellectual prowess in inferring that the big guy is Zonn based on so little evidence, not to mention she never even met the guy. Congratulations, JED, it’s not every day I see an author show a genius at work that convincingly.

I also love Mentl’s slightly worried expression in panel 5. I’m just wondering if he’s worried at Zona’s attitude or at meeting his beloved’s father (that can be intimidating, but all the more so when said father’s strength and temper are legendary even among Erogenians).

Lastly, I may have to go back on this “Lord” thing about Erogenians. I’ve tried to look up situations where it would come up, in the first meeting with Pontagar ( https://barbarianprincess.com/comic/conflict-resolution-erogenian-style/page-291/ ) or in Tethik’s dealing with the Bull tribe ( https://barbarianprincess.com/comic/bulls-and-brawling/page-301-2/ and https://barbarianprincess.com/comic/an-old-misunderstanding/page-380/ ), to no avail. If anyone is brave enough to archive dive and dig up something that would prove me wrong, I would be glad.

    1. Actually, if you read the page you linked, it’s Zona saying this to the guy, and she calls him “Guntig”. On that very page.

      1. Indeed it is!

It took me some time to sort out what you were talking about because you were referring to another of my comments, but once I got that it went real fast.

So, thank you sibling! Help much appreciated!

  11. By the way, JED, the link to the second part of Tethik’s visit to the Bull tribe in the “Chapters” drop-down list on the top right of the page links to https://barbarianprincess.com/comic/an-old-misunderstanding/6page-380/ , not https://barbarianprincess.com/comic/an-old-misunderstanding/page-380/ . (There’s a “6” in excess before “page-380” in case that was hard to catch.) You may want to note that down for correction at some point.

Feel free to delete this once noted and taken care of, obviously.

(Is there a way to bother you about such things without cluttering the comments?)

  12. hehe. from my perspective as an outside viewer this is hilarious. in my trying to perceive the incoming awkwardness to those involved, it becomes more so.

  13. Well, that will take some balancing? I suppose Zonn will accept that he did decide not to make their way back back then and thus deserves the punch, but what will happen next? More fighting/arguing?

I like how the reactions of the rest of them are so calm and that they take the time to say hello before Chera goes to check on Zonn.

I can certainly understand Zona’s frustration and why she would think of him as a deserter. But technically, Zona is currently also a deserter; she left her own group behind to pursue her own, personal goals.

  14. I couldn’t stop laughing and screaming ‘YEAH!’ at the top of my lungs. Which made my daughter looks at me with a strange look (she is three) and my husband…
And when I explain to him he was like ‘ah…?’
Well, he does know I read Zona and asks about it from time to time… *shrug* it’s ok, I had fun reading this page and seeing Mentl and Tula in the last panel.

  15. Um, please don’t hate me. I have a technical note. In panel six it looks like Zonn has taken a punch from his right hard enough to both lift him off the ground and twist him to his left. Zona on the other hand is standing on her left foot with her right in the air with her right fist raised in the air. That just doesn’t seem possible unless she back handed him really, really, REALLY, hard.

    1. I was wondering the same thing, mainly because I thought Zona’s right feet was extended on her side and was visible next to the top of Zonn’s left boot. Then I noticed that it was some kind of button or jewel and it made more physical sense to me.

Actually, my limited experience in martial arts leads me to conclude that when you strike someone with right fist, your weight will start from your left foot (to shift to the right foot once the move is completed). So I don’t hate you (nor do I think anyone here does), but I’m not sure you have a point here, brother.

  16. and going for the distance is…

  17. I do hope Zonn didn’t land on any flumphs. They don’t deserve that.

Nice detailing on the liver spots, JED.

  18. Page 1025 “The Daddy Issue”

  19. Wow. Someone (other than a giant) who can make Zona look short.

  20. This such a perfect mirror to meeting Pontygar and the Twins!

  21. used to read more of this when this started a few years ago, but not anymore. just stopped the art doesn’t… pop out to me like it used to, of course that was many years ago and I feel like I have simultaneously dulled and sharpened since that time.
    Anyway, here’s the post.

the award for most random post, … maybe [probably not, actually]-

tula’s look, based on the cg polish to her character, the chiseled features of her face, the style and color of her hair, and maybe a few other things, or not, … remind me of a weird combination of Red Monika, very famous [not-so] Good Guy Chucky, the mistress herself Elvira, and the femdom / princess / warrior / heroine / best-friend / [too many things to too many people to list] Xena.
[Red Monika? That was her name, right? The one from Battle Chasers? … I used to read all sorts of comic books when I was younger [Disney, Harvey, Simpsons, Ninja Turtles, Nintendo, Nick, … Mad, Cracked, Nuts… [Mmmm!!! Cracked Nuts! Aaaauuuuugggghhh. Sorry. My inner Homer got out there. Where was I? Oh, right… Comic Books.] …. [as you can tell, … I am an 80s kid, sort of, although more of a late-80s to early-90s kid.
Then, many years later, I only read comic books [the female action [superheroine, eye candy, furny female hero stuff, game-based, etc.] for a couple of years, way back from ’00 until ’02, maybe ’04, at the latest], wow, time flies. come back, childhood and high school to college years, except for the high school and college work part, although I would like to go back just to get back in touch, etc. You know… Growing up… sigh…. 34 …. double-sigh… well. There must always something cool on the horizon, so that makes me feel sort of good, anyway… there you go.]

[yes, I did include frames of reference for each character that I mentioned, but as I think… who am I kidding?

    1. Although perhaps one of the characters may be slightly obscure … [Red Monika], simply going by how much presence characters within the field of female empowerment, sex appeal, suspense, comedy, adventure and the like happen to have on a fairly daily basis, people know them rather well.

    2. Except for RM, they tend to be somewhat prevalent on the net.

    3. People make countless fanart, fiction, videos, tunes, AMVs, and much more featuring each of them.

4; Does there actually even happen to be more than one character named Xena? How many characters named Xena are there, really?

    5. Aside from the Oak-Ridge Boys, how many Elviras do people actually reference, and besides those two, are there any Elviras, really?

    6. Like I would be making reference to the Oak Ridge Boys? Yeah, right. [Although the song is pretty nice, and … just corny enough.]

    7. Seeing as I was saying Chucky and not Chuckie or Chuck E., there would really happen to be only one character that could be.]

    8. Also, lastly, [not a plug], with him celebrating a 30th anniversary fairly soon, the Chuckster’s popularity must be even higher than his body count.
[That sounded like some sort of an entertainment news person or something, ya know?]

  22. How dares he? Well, he is the one who impregnated your mother with you, Zona.

    Biologically, he’s right. πŸ™‚
