Well, to be fair, Michael probably only sees him just as another enchanter in Zona’s world.
How would he be different in his eyes from what he has seen in that medieval-fantasy world?
He knows he is very, VERY powerful. But that much more than the others? Eh, he probably doesn’t realise it yet.
Mentl has the same problem many of those who have special skills and can’t wrap their head around the idea that they are special. “But I’m just me! Nothing special about it.”
Just because you don’t let it go to your head doesn’t change the fact that you are the hero to save the day, so to speak. Just because you do the things you do without thinking about it, everyone else is either scared of you or want to BE you, that should have been your first clue, Mentl.
Fabled French singer-songwriter Charles Trenet wrote “Le soleil a rendez-vous avec la lune” (“The sun has a date with the moon”), but it can’t be called classic rock. And it doesn’t seem to have been translated to English (unlike the much better-known “La mer”, that Robbie Williams sang during the closing credits to Nemo’s World).
He’s ready to do whatever, but given the scope of the situation it’s hard to figure out what needs to be done first. Him asking what they need without running off half a baked is probably the smartest thing he can do. He may be the BIGGEST cannon in the arsenal, but he’s also self aware enough to know he’s not the wisest.
Well, now that it’s set in his mind that he’s the “big gun,” like any heavy cannon, he’s just wanting to be “aimed” and fired. This reminds me a bit of “Endgame” in the MCU, Cap is the last man standing, about to fight to his last breath, despite his broken arm, and the ground and air opens up dozens of portals and the army’s pour out. Only in this case, it’ll be Mentl, jamming on his lute, the ground and air filled with every imaginal type of troops in the world pouring in, while Mentl opens his eyes and starts looking for the leaders of the Urrts… And chanting some heavy metal song…

Actually, I’m thinking Ipola would prefer Mentl transports the Sun Tribe to the Valley of the Moon, than cause a solar eclipse.
That said, if Mentl did cause a solar eclipse, the Urrts might be taken aback somewhat by his power.
