Poor Planning – Page 1141

TRANSCRIPT   SHEAHLA:  I told you this was a bad plan!   YATTA: I haven’t lost my hat yet!   SHEAHLA: What the hell does that mean?!   YATTA: I -  just thought it sounded clever, my love!   SHEAHLA: Less cleverness, more fighting!  It’s a dumb hat, anyway ...   YATTA: As you wish! (dispatches two Urtts in two frames.)   SHEAHLA: Showoff … It’s a dumb hat, anyway.

  1. “Gorb. Dis iz turnink into vun of DOSE plans… Hyu know, de kind vere ve keel everybody dot notices dot ve’s killin’ people?”
    “It is?”
“Uh huh. And how do dose alvays end?”
“De dirigible iz in flames, everyboddyz dead an’ I’ve lost my hat.”
“Dot’s RIGHT. Und any plan vere you loose you hat iz?”
    “A bad plan?”
    “RIGHT AGAIN!”

Turns out, I can transcribe Jager almost as fast as I can type English. Neat.

    1. A good skill. *nods*

I just LOVE the Girl Genius reference! 😀 Thanks, Jed.

    2. Yah, cuz if yuz ain’t gots a hat, derz no story to brag about.

  2. Yatta sure has come a long way.

  3. SamuraiDemonPuppy

Ahh – somebody reads Girl Genius. Good taste, there.

    1. Ah, I see you’re a man of culture as well.

  4. Any plan where you lose your hat is a bad plan. That’s some Jager wisdom.

    1. Hmmm…I wonder what Jager wisdom says about a plan that makes your hat fall off your head, but you can still pick it up later & put it back on? Technically, the hat was still not lost.
Or even if you can wind up with a *better* hat to replace it with?
      ?

      1. A better hat is always an option; that’s how the other guys lose *their* hats! Defeat an enemy an you are allowed to take their hat as spoils of the fight. 😀

  5. Oi! Unless I miss my guess, double shout-out, to Princess Bride and to the 3 Musketeers.
The hat is also a reference, but I don’t know the origin of this one.

I am ashamed to say I don’t remember the redhead lady, Sheahla. Load and load of characters…

    1. I thought the quote was a Princess Bride reference, but it turns out Goldman was referring to the Three Musketeers… (Well, one of its sequels actually, but that’s of little import.)

And hey, Raoullefere, I think you’re the first fan to get referred to in the quotes! (Unless someone named Jean did?)

      1. Actually, Athos is my dad, but close, jd. 🙂

        1. My, quite so. Apologies, I got confused in my excitement.

Do you or anyone else want to challenge my altered opinion that you are the first fan whose close family gets referred to in the quotes?

      2. Searching the origin of a quote can be really difficult on the internet. Rabid fans excitedly talking about the latest popular/funny thing will quickly bury and replace all references to a thing.

One example I like to use, is the classic gazebo joke which is fairly well known, particularly amongst gamers. However many of these people will tell me it is from Munchkin which I find hilarious since Munchkin itself is so blatantly derivative. For the original Gazebo (to the best of my knowledge), search for “The Tale of Eric and the Dread Gazebo”.

  6. Please don’t kill Sheahla! While there is no shortage of perfect breasts in this world, it would STILL be a pity to damage hers.

  7. So the story jumps out of the fire and into the frying pan.

I’ve missed these guys, particularly Sheahla (misspelled in the character tags, by the way). I like her a lot, Luna knows why.

Also, am I right in believing that the only medieval japanese weapon the Urtts have access to is the tetsubo?

  8. Oh, and I forgot to mention how I love Sheahla’s tender expression in the last panel. Beautiful.

    1. Five pages ago I wasn’t sure I was right to advertise for JL8, and got glowing approval from our master storyteller. Now the author and a sibling fan both reference Girl Genius. Fine stories everywhere! (Well, since I haven’t read Girl Genius yet I can only go with hearsay, but there’s so much thereof…)

      1. It’s well worth the time to read, if you’re into a Steampunk fantasy with fighting, weird humor, & even some romance.
But don’t take my word for it, experiment with your genre-reading…After all, it’s FOR SCIENCE!

“Any magic that is sufficiently analyzed is indistinguishable from science.”

        1. Simply put, Girl Genius is WONDERFUL. Well worth the read, and an extensive archive dive to get caught up to current. There are two webcomics that I check daily to ensure I get the latest updates as soon as they’re posted – Zona and Girl Genius. And even though I know Zona doesn’t update daily, I do love the comments from all of the fans, and those update frequently… 😀

I was first introduced to Phil Foglio’s work when he used to do a few pages of comics regularly for Dragon Magazine. The comics were about the AD&D game, gameplay & permutations along with it. Used “Phil & Dixie” as the main narrators in the comics.
Yeah, that was quite a few years ago…

  10. Being clever does not mean you are not a good fighter, lady.
It is rather the opposite. Fighting requires a lot of common intelligence, and an enormous amount of intelligence that is specific to the act of fighting itself.

  11. Don’t forget the May 2011 Knights of the Dinner Table strip “Lair of the Gazebo” http://www.kodtweb.com/2011/05/20/lair-of-the-gazebo-3/

  12. Why are they fighting the ogres again?
