  1. Maybe it’s the lighting, but Mentl’s hair has turned kinda purplish.

  2. Love the quote for this one. I wonder how many Trekies will spot it. And of course who JTK is.

  3. David,
    Gotcha! James Tiberius Kirk.

  4. That’s a brutal way of escaping, but if it works… *shrugs* But Mentl will probably need a moment or two to regain his whereabouts.

  5. Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
    ‘nugh said.

  6. I think next we’ll find that the Mirror gets a little upset at the loss of its meal.

  7. Gotta say, I know how he feels. It ain’t true you can’t die in your dreams and live. Had a really fucked up one where I got heart shot. Worst feeling in my life, hurt like fucking hell. Woke up clutching my chest and basically lookin like Mentl here. Could still feel it when I was awake. Biggest mindfuck of my life.

    1. Did you get yourself checked out? It’s conceivable that you had a heart attack in your sleep, and the sensation of it was what triggered that dream.

  8. I like the look of Tula in the last panel. She knows precisely what Zona is talking about, because last time she was there. The unreality of the Otherwhen overwhelms the sensations you experience, and wraps the mind in a continuing sensation/perception that *it* is what reality really is, just as the simulacrum of Mentl’s father was weaving that perception back into existence through his sophomoric philosophy, ….until some other sensation breaks both holds, sensation and perception, which is what Zona’s action did. Let’s see how it is explained in the next panels.

  9. Now a question – What, exactly did she do to his Otherwhen manifestation? Would he be able to travel there again?

    1. Well, since Zona was in the same situation with a same or similar mirror having trapped her inside the Otherwhen, and *she* is able to go back to the Otherwhen by dreaming as she and Tula just did in their search for Mentl, …then it *seems* like Mentl should be able to do so.

      1. You have to remember that while Mentl was really the Otherwhen, Zona wasn’t; she was a dream projection, meaning that she couldn’t really hurt him. Thus when Zona stabbed Mentl, it only shocked him back to consciousness.

At least that’s my read on things. Hope I’m not stealing JED’s pig again.

  10. Huh, so what “Dad” was telling him was accurate, to a certain extent: nothing IS real — there in the Otherwhen.
