A Minor Inconvenience …

Hi kids!  There was a delay in updates, and I think you ought to know why.

Didja ever want to know what an actual heart attack feels like?  Well, with any luck  you never will.  I, on the other hand, know exactly what it feels like.  It’s not like Aunt May clutching her heart and collapsing.  It was more like the worst acid reflux you can think of for about 24 hours straight.  Went to the doc, and to make a long story short, anyone can have clogged arteries under the right conditions – even me!

This was about a week and a half ago, and yeah, I spent a couple of miserable nights in hospital where they kindly opened my artery and put a nifty little mesh tube in there to keep it open.   Did I ever wish there was some kind of wormhole and Tula could come use Erogenian Magick to heal things quicker.  Hospital sucks.

Otherwise, I am fine, and looking forward to eventually splitting logs again and doing other macho stuff around home, just like before.  But, as I write this I need lots of rest and can’t lift anything heavier than ten pounds.  (That means I have to put my little dog or my cat on the scale before I heft them, just to be sure. )

But I am now well on the mend, and look forward to making regular updates – or even more to make up for the lost time.

Warmest regards,

JED

  1. It’s good that you survived. It’s better that you’ll recover fully. It’s best that you do those first, and get back to comic-ing after you’re back up to speed.
My father had a fatal heart attack while he was in the hospital pursuant to a prior heart attack. The nurse wouldn’t let him stay dead, though, and he lived a happy, healthy life for 40 more years.
You’ve got this knocked, but take the time you need. Better to be later than never.

  2. Oh, dude, I’m so sorry! Glad you made it and you’re on the mend. Take care of yourself!

  3. I’m so sorry to read that!

We’ve waited before, we can wait again and we’ll be here when you’re back if you need to take time away. I think I speak for all my sibling fans when I say that your health matters to us much more than the comic, and not just because the latter won’t exist without the first.

Take the time you need to get better, and I mean *really* better, like not only you feel you’re back in full shape but also you have medical advice to back you up on it. I appreciate doing macho stuff as much as the next guy-who-was-once-slightly-overweight-and-got-strong-and-fit-from-dozens-of-pushups-every-morning, but you know Qohelet better than me: “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven”.

(Now I want to see Mentl to sing Pete Seeger’s song, possibly in the Byrds’ arrangement to fit with his usual repertoire… but right now I can’t imagine a situation where it would bring a useful effect.)

  4. We will indeed wait again, and happily. Though I’ll note I waited longer than I needed to, since something has apparently broken the RSS feed. Back about page 1247, apparently. I did enjoy catching up though 🙂
