  1. Is it me or is Mentyl missing a torc?

    1. Mentl was missing his torc – not anymore!
      Thanks for catching that.

      Warm regards,

      1. What’s a torc? I don’t recall the term.

  2. Joe,
It’s the piece of neck jewelry all Erogenian adults wear. Mentl was adopted into both the Moon Tribe and the Sun Tribe, and so wears one now. But I used an earlier model of Mentl from my library (cuz he’s, like, nekkid) and that did not have the torc. I fixed it.

    1. Thanks. Isn’t it also a sign of commitment?

      1. No, it’s a sign of majority. The chains of copper, then bronze, then silver and then gold are outward symbols of relationship commitment. They are worn separately. Mentl and Zona are Silver-bonded in Erogenia, and so wear ankle chains of that metal. On Earth they are married, and each wears a wedding ring.

  3. Did Zona get a nose job?

    1. No, she did not get a nose job. This is the exact same model I used the last time we saw her in the Hall of Giants. The exact same nose. The only thing different is the lighting and possibly the simulated camera .

      Regards,
      JED

    2. Think it’s due to the lighting. Like how her hair seems much lighter than before; more white than yellow/gold

  4. “They got a thing that’s called radar friendship”…

Funny how Mentl tries to soothe Zona out of alarm. I guess he’s very protective of his sweet little 6ft-plus amazon.

    1. One thing I always try to portray is Zona’s vulnerability. She is tough as nails when shit gets real, but she’s no stranger to fear or insecurity. Mentl, paradoxically, makes her feel safe. She’s put that into words at times, so long-time readers are aware of it. Naturally, they are both protective of each other, which is what makes it fun to write them.

      Warm regards,
      JED

  5. I thought Zona and Mentyl were now wearing Gold chains? Didn’t they get gold bonded under the Sun tribe after they met Zonn and the queen showed up? I thought that was when mental got his Torc, after the queen asked him what he wanted. If I got that wrong can I get a link to that bit? without a link I’ll end up re-reading the whole damn thing from the beginning-again…

    1. Look at the 2018 archive:
      https://barbarianprincess.com/images/ArchiveII/Challenges%20Of%20Zona%202018.pdf
It’s about halfway through. Then later, when they return to Erogenia, Zona introduces Mentl to Pontagar as ” … my silver-bonded.” They are walking toward the Golden Path, but they need to walk the Silver Path for at least five years before they can wear the golden chains.

  6. I though Zona was considdered too grounded to be affected by various magical aspects.

The last time they were shown in the dream world, they entered bodilly through the mirror to get Mentl out. Has something changed that?

    1. Something seems to have changed. Or maybe something had yet to be revealed. Stay tuned. 🙂

      Warm regards,
      JED

  7. One thing I been wanting to ask: If Mentl is “Just” the Companion/Bonded/Boyfriend of Zona, then why does he have a gold torc? I haven’t seen anyone else with a gold torc, just a couple with gold trim or inlay.

    1. Mentl is the Silver Bonded of an Erogenian Princess. That is essentially the equivalent of our marriage, because it involves complete fidelity but with the possibility of ending the partnership. He’s also the adopted son of the Queen of the Moon Tribe and the King of the Sun Tribe. He saved both Tula and Zona’s life on more than one occasion. There’s nothing “only” about his status in Erogenia. And many others, including Ipola and Tula have precious metals woven in and around their torcs. The torc that he has was a relic of the Sun Tribe, having been owned by one of Zonn’s original priests when he went on his ill-fated scouting mission during the previous war. It is a bronze core with woven gold surrounding it, and the rings are silver or white gold, haven’t made up my mind about that.

      Warm regards,
      JED

  8. “Nothing good can come of NEEDING to speak to Mentl.”
    (paraphrased from) Tedd Verres.

  9. Panel 6 is mislabeled in the transcript as panel 5. Also, Can I just say Tula’s look in panel 6 is just yummy. There’s always something more alluring about the naughty bits when they’re just hinted at rather than just fully on display. At least in my opinion. 🙂

  10. Hinted or in full display? I like both ways. 🙂

  11. Compared with their first appearances “on screen”, Zona and Tula went through several “redesign” of their overall appearance.
And I like this one too. Now, you really pick that they are indeed half-sisters.
