As of the beginning of February I am no longer going to be working for someone else. I will be working Zona as a full-time job.
What does this mean for you all?
More content. More frequent updates. A regular schedule! Amazing!
And more attention to the animated series of “The Challenges Of Zona” Soon – like very soon – we hope to present you, the Zonaphiles, with more powerful and amazing footage which we will be pushing out into the world to convince everyone who has it to spend to invest in a bright future of fantasy entertainment!
And I could not do this without you all. Thank you! Thank you! Thanks a whole lot!
Watch this space!
Warmest regards,
JED

1) You SCARED me!!! Thought you were quitting Zona!!!
2) She looks AMAZING!!!
3) But now I got scared again because she is so lifelike she reminded me of Xena and I got worried again; nobody can go crazy and come after you right?
I’m excited to see what you have in store, and happy to see you being able to work on what you love, especially when you are so good at it!!!

Phoebe,
No, Zona is my baby! They’ll have to pry her from my cold, dead hands. 🙂 This is me quitting my day job to concentrate on the comic, the art, the story and the video!
As to the matter of copyright, a fun fact: I wrote and published the original smutty little find-your-path book “The Three Challenges Of Zona” in 1991. Xena was introduced in “Hercules The Legendary Journeys” in 1995. Zona actually has the earlier copyright, hehehehe!
Warm regards,
JED

Congratulations. Avoid the rovers and head for the new horizons in your Lotus 7. You will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed, or numbered.
Hypertrophobic
Is that picture a The Prisoner reference?

P.S. Best of luck!
JEDraft
Hypertrophobic,
It most certainly is. One of the greatest pieces of television ever made. 🙂
Warm regards,

And welcome The global Village.

For you who were not around in the 1970s, that’s what a computer card looks like. It was a standard method for reading computer program code and data into a computer back then before PCs.
RBZ
Fun fact: punch cards were originally designed for knitting machines, which is why early programmers were more often than not women.
Nowadays, even the knitting machines have USB/SD slots.
Inquisitive Raven
Pretty sure they were intended for looms (specifically Jacquard looms), not knitting machines, but yeah, textiles.
RBZ
Looms, obviously.
Yes. The textiles industry, or “Women’s work” as the antediluvian misogynistic pre-War era referred to it.
Fast Eddie
Congratulations!

Whew! Much like Phoebe, I was concerned that you were going away for a hot minute. Before I scrolled down, All that showed on my screen from the site was “I QUIT”.
Glad to hear that you’ll be expanding the storytelling and picking back up steam with the updates. Thanks again for all that you do!
MasterDiver
Be seeing you.
Sincerely,
The New #2.

Oh, my goodness. An IBM 100 EBCIDIC and references to the intro sequence of The Prisoner.

I love it!

I’m impressed at your completeness in using the Prisoner’s Village font for the “I Quit”!

Good Luck with it. Just don’t forget about Murphy’s Laws. They bite REALLY hard! At least you do have your ass covered with a copyright. I am a fan of animation, so I am looking forward to seeing what you can do with it. Especially in light of the advances that have been made in recent years with CG animation. Will it be a bit less PG for the streaming crowd, or will you keep toned down for the wider audience?
jedraft
Joe Fonebone,
Well, if you look at the video linked below, you will get an idea of what we’ll be doing.

Mind you, that was Unreal Engine 4, and I was pretty impressed with it. Brian is now working with UE5, and the results far surpass what we did in the POC video. So you shouldn’t have too long to wait to see some cool stuff!
Naturally, you’ll see more of it and sooner if you become a patron at Patreon.com/JEDraft. 🙂
And to answer the question regarding what rating we’ll give it, I think we’ll keep it to PG13 for the general release. Naturally, there will always be bonuses for generous patrons. 🙂
Warm regards,
JED

Goddess! Jed, you had me scared there for a moment; thought you were quitting Zona and leaving us hanging until I scrolled far enough down to see it’s the opposite. You’re going full artist! 😀 Yeah! Go for it and best of luck!

J,
It s been a long.time coming, dude. I am very happy for you, and looking forward with you to what comes next.
CHEERS!!!

Congratulations, JED! Best of luck in this new step of your life! (As I understand it, earning a living as an artist pretty much depends on talent, work, and luck. You have the first two in droves, so I’ll focus my wishes on the last.)
This webcomic has been my favorite for years now. It has the other best comments section on the Web (congratulations and thanks, siblings!), a superb story, a smart plot, awesome characters and gorgeous graphics.
Oh, and I’m among those who were scared when I saw the first third of today’s page. I’m awfully relieved that I was wrong, and even more happy for you!
Do what you love, JED! We love enjoying it!
(Cue whatever rock song you love and feel appropriate; I’m partial to Queen’s “Spread Your Wings”.)

Damn. Where did you work until then, please? In which sector?
In any case, best of luck in this new year 2023.

1) I’m not sure I needed that much panik on a Saturday morning
2) Congratulations on making the leap to full time Artist! Not many can take that leap of faith and I look forward to seeing the products of the additional time you can now dedicate to your passion.

Nice Prisoner reference!

A risky, bold move but you’re where few have succeeded in doing, making your strip into a TV show/movie series. You and another strip I follow are both very good writers and you stick to your lore very closely. Few other’s do that, and you don’t reboot every few years, that just confuses everyone. I’ve been suggesting the same to the other, but it has real world elements, the Dev is worried it would get killed by the “social justice league” on release because of the content.
