No Such Place As Far Away – Page 1134

TRANSCRIPT: IPOLA: (Embraces Zona and Tula and Mentl)  Be well, my children. Be safe, be strong. I expect to see you again in the Valley Of The Moon. MENTL: Hey, you too, right?   IPOLA: Indeed, my new son. IPOLA: I’ll send birds to you with messages. Chera should be able to speak with them, now that Tula’s taught her. . CHERA: As long as they’re patient with me.  It’s still very new. IPOLA: You’ve taught yourself so much over the years, I don’t doubt you’ll do as well at this. ZONN: We’ve got the ring, anyway. IPOLA: Please use it sparingly. Only if it’s important. ZONN: Everything about you is important, Ipola. *PASH* ZONN: But yes, I hear you.  I’ll try to be wise - for your sake. IPOLA: You’re already wiser than I ever thought - and probably wiser than you know. Farewell, my love.  Until we meet again.

  1. I like this page! 😀 It’s mushy and make me feel good and a little sad about the departure.

    Say with me: awww.

    1. AAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!

  2. Oooh! This may be the best page yet!

  3. I love this quote from Aristotle.

  4. Y’know, I’ve complained on occasion (usually silently) that Erogenians as a whole were a bit too perfect (singularly as opposed to Kivalians), but I don’t car that those seven are perfect. Well, almost perfect except naturally Jeevik.

It would be much too long and would take up much too much space to list everything I love in this page.

    So hang on.

First, that hug in the first panel. They’re so sweet. Thinking back on their previous farewells makes it even more achingly cute.

“Be well, my children. Be safe, be strong.” is a beautiful valediction. I intend to use it with my own kids, with maybe “be wise” added.

I love Chera’s humble expression in the third panel, and Tula’s trusting, joyful smile. I love how Ipola assesses her competence.

I love Zonn’s pledge for wisdom — “for your sake” no less!

I love the slow backwards camera movement from panel 2 to panel 4, and Hrraarch’s massive frame to foreshadow Ipola’s imminent departure.

I love Hrraarch’s intent expression in the last panel, focused on flight unlike her passenger.

And of course, I love how Ipola publicly admits having been wrong about Zonn’s wisdom, commends him in front of his own people (not that they need to know that he’s doing good but it still drives the point home, not to mention it helps accepting her as überqueen should anyone have second thoughts), *and* calls him her love.

Oh yeah, I love how the nameless characters in the background have moved between the two last panels. (Does anyone know who the orange person is? They seem to have one heck of a sunburn…)

We know that there are dark times ahead. We know that we’ll see these people we’ve come to love suffer and grieve and be wounded. But for the nonce, we get to enjoy the very reason why they fight — love, wisdom, and sisterhood. (I was going for ‘brotherhood’, then did the math about the sex ratio.)

In a nutshell, I love this page and I love this webcomic and I love these characters and I love this story!

    1. Oh, I hadn’t noticed the orange guy until you mentioned him! Maybe he’s of the nassim?

      1. Or maybe a half-nassim.

  5. (By the way, JED, there don’t seem to be any character tags in this page. Feel free to delete this comment once it becomes irrelevant.)

  6. 7 “Now, Lord my God, you have made your servant king in place of my father David. But I am only a little child and do not know how to carry out my duties. 8 Your servant is here among the people you have chosen, a great people, too numerous to count or number. 9 So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?” 1 Kings 3:7-9
