now if he’s smart, he’ll send for Ippola and the Fire Tribe Shaman together, and make sure they both arrive and enter the room at the same time. If that’s possible. He’s going to need to work smart…
I would have thought Pontagar was sandbagging and waiting to confirm his father IS acually as corrupt as it seems and willing to kill him, after having the confirmation, he just acted as necessary.

Well, given the time it will take for messengers to reach both Ipola and the current Fire Tribe Shaman and bring them together at the scene… Arrogand’s body is most-likely to start decomposing pretty badly.
Typical Dad line, “I brought you in, I can take you out; Blah, Blah, Blah! He thought his Son didn’t have the balls to kill him, and he was wrong! No help from God there.
” Something Vimes had learned as a young guard drifted up from memory. If you have to look along the shaft of an arrow from the wrong end, if a man has you entirely at his mercy, then hope like hell that man is an evil man. Because the evil like power, power over people, and they want to see you in fear. They want you to know you’re going to die. So they’ll talk. They’ll gloat.
They’ll watch you squirm. They’ll put off the moment of murder like another man will put off a good cigar.
So hope like hell your captor is an evil man. A good man will kill you with hardly a word.”
Terry Pratchett, Men at Arms (Discworld, #15; City Watch #2)
I did say ‘start to’. 😉 He didn’t get to finish it.
I also seriously doubt Arrogand brought Pontigar into the world. He had a small part in the first stage, but everything else was whoever is Pontigar’s mother. *She* carried him and brought him into this world.
I can’t help but notice that Pontagar comes by any lingering misogynistic sentiments honestly. “A womanish thing.” When some of their most powerful allies are woman. Zona, her mother…

HA! Well struck, Pontagar!

You sly dog, you caught him monologuing!
Shyster
But what about the dude (or thing) in the shadows that was conspiring with the fire king before?

It took me a while to find but the link is here… https://barbarianprincess.com/comic/a-wise-father-page-1193/

Thanks, I just spent an hour re-reading the comic from there forward, where the hell did my day go?!? Beware the link “It’s A TRAP!” 🙂
Shyster
A trap would be a link to tvtropes… I can be cruel but I have yet to be that cruel!
Also you’re welcome!

There is a saying that a boy cannot truly live as a man until after his father dies.

Oooooppppssss! Take two Ibuprofen and call back on Friday, before noon, we close the office at noon on Friday.
Just_IDD
I just left home and stopped talking to the idiot.

Thank you. I came here to say this, but I would have many more words to do so.

I *know* it’s not what I’m supposed to have my attention on, but that ass shot in the third panel …! That’s a nice one, Jed. 😀
And, of course, Arrogand was stupid enough to start monologuing instead of finishing the job. Guess he’s not walking away from *that* one.

@Lora
That’s rather short, for a monologue.

Arrogond, you forgot the Evil Overlord List, #6: “I will not gloat over my enemies’ predicament before killing them.”
SeanR
I’d argue that his father “died” about two paragraphs before he threw him the sword and told him to defend himself.
Ladyofthemasque
Isn’t it interesting how he says “And by GOD I’ll”…? Most Erogenians would say by Luna or by Terra or by Goddess.
Looks like Arrogond has already gone over to worshipping Shuach deep down inside.
TheGorramBatguy
Indeed, Arrogond died of a sudden stroke 😉

I think he got the point
That’s one way to get your point across

If you’re going to kill some one, KILL THEM! Don’t stand around talking about it.

A sudden stroke. Just after his son pointed him out, even though sharp words were used.
That stroke really cut the whole thing short.

@Archone
Well, it’s the Fire Tribe men we’re speaking about, after all.
They are misogynists.
Angela
If the Fire Tribe leader is a misogynist, then the rest of the tribe just follows. Or says “yeah, boss” even when they don’t see it that way.
Miffychan
I don’t know, he seemed to get to the point fairly quickly.
