IPOLA: How odd. Hearing you put it like that … Another man like you - in some ways - spoke of the same things to me just days ago. But he wasn’t so full of hate as you are. His way didn’t need for others to die or be destroyed so his people could live and create themselves, owing nothing to Erogenia. He was … a wise man, I think. Even if all the Erogenian nations are destroyed and all of us killed - you would still remember us, no matter how you tried to forget. If we did the same to you - we would still remember you. You can rewrite history all you want, but you are from our seed. We are part of each other, even in our blood. We have been since the beginning, for ill and for good. Perhaps there is another way. A way I couldn’t see when I made that oath twenty years ago. There must be - if we can only find it.
GORSHASH: No.
IPOLA: We could destroy you, as I promised. You have found the dragons, but there is more and greater power in the world than even the dragons - and there always has been. If this war goes forward, it could end in a hollow victory for us all.
GOSHASH: That is your weakness, Ipola Queen. You speak as one who fears destruction. God revels in it, and in all that dies for His glory. That is why we will prevail.

ZONA: Gods.
PANEL 3 CU on Zona
ZONA: How many left?
RANNIK: Twenty five, Highness.
ZONA: I … If I’d been there …
PANEL 4
CU on Rannik
RANNIK: Don’t. You had good reason to do what you did. And you succeeded. So did we, frankly. We fought well, we fought hard. We got everything we were sent to get and more. Our little band weren’t sent here to win the war, Zona. We were here to be a bug up the ass of the Urtts, and to get the information that your mother needs to make preparations to win the war. All of us knew what we were in for. All of us - including you - were willing to die if we had to.
PANEL 5
On ZONA
ZONA: I know. I know, I just wish …
PANEL 6
ON PONTAGAR
PONTAGAR: Wishes don’t win battles, princess.
TRANSCRIPT:
MENTL: Here - have some kishir. I’ll see what I can do about immobilizing the arm - but not sure how good my healing magick is, just yet. I’ll let Tula handle you when she’s got a minute. Nothing personal, just don’t want to do more harm than good.
Easy, dude. Chera’s stuff may be a little stronger than you’re used to. Although, in your case that’s not a bad thing.
RANNIK: Shouldn’t you be helping the battle, then - enchanter?
MENTL: Zona’s got it. It’s been awhile since she could really cut loose like this. And honestly, I might just get in the way.
ON ZONA having a perfectly wonderful time butchering Urtts (“This is GREAT!”)
RANNIK: Yes. Yes, we’ve missed her.
MENTL: I’ll bet.
RANNIK: I look … forward to hearing your story.
Guntig morphs from hawk to human right next to them.
MENTL:GAH!
GUNTIG: Either help or get out of the way.
MENTL: Uhh … your patient.
TULA: Fiz?! Fiz! Goddess, Fiz, please ...
FIZ: Puh-princess ...Y-your face … is as beautiful as the sky …
TULA: Ohh - you’re a sweetie. Looks like you could use some help.
FIZ: Oh … I suh-seem to be … dying …
TULA: Not today. (begins healing him)
MENTL: Hey, Stud.
RANNIK: “Mentl” - right?
MENTL: Yup.
RANNIK: I am … Rannik.
MENTL: Of course you are. (pause) With a busted wing, no less.
RANNIK: Ohh - just a … scratch.
MENTL: (examines him) Crap - that’s nasty. Bet it smarts, too.
RANNIK: Your gift for understatement is … impressive. Can you heal it?`
TRANSCRIPT
TETHIK: Rise up, scion of Holy Georg! Rise up!
BEDIK: Mwah? Oh1 My lord!
TETHIK: Yes. Go clean yourself and become useful. Unless I miss my guess both you and your lover here have duties this morning.
BEDIK: Yes, my lord …
MERTEAN: “Lover?” We ain’t lovers!
BEDIK: It’s all right - it’s - he’s -
MERTEAN: We ain’t! I ain’t like dat!
BEDIK: He knows! He knows.
TETHIK: (grinning) Do I?
MERTEAN: (seeing the Princip) Oh! yer Worship!
TORIAN: On about yer duties, den, Spearman.
MERTEAN: Aye, yer Worship. And just to say again, I ain’t like dat - he … he ain’t my lover.
TORIAN: O’ course.
ZONN: Don’t be so hard on yourself. I was the one who hared off trying to be a hero. And we wound up 1500 miles from where we should have been behind the Urtt territories, and we really by rights should all be dead. Even if you hadn’t stopped looking, you might have wasted time and resources you couldn’t afford without ever finding us.
ZONN: And look at you: Ipola, you’ve made something truly great. You made sacrifices for the greater good again and again and …you triumphed as few people in history ever could. And, obviously, you didn’t really need me there to do it.
IPOLA: Says you.
ZONN: Besides - it’s all in the past, we can’t change it now. Let’s take what we have.
IPOLA: Do we have anything - really? You and I, after all this time?
ZONN: We have tonight. And that’s not nothing. For the future? Well ...
IPOLA: For that - Hrraarch, my Aburor friend will return in five days time at noon. She will land if she feels it’s safe, but only if she sees me. If she doesn’t, she will return to her people alone. That’s our agreement.
ZONN: So soon.
IPOLA: The Sun and the Moon can’t share the sky for long, I’m afraid.
ZONN: But they do, though, don’t they?
IPOLA: Yes. Yes, they do, however … briefly.
TRANSCRIPT:
IPOLA: So - hello, Mentl.
MENTL: Ma’am. Uhh … your Majesty. Ma’am. (oy)
IPOLA: You did it.
TULA: Yes.
IPOLA: Of course you did. And so much more. I could not be more proud of you right now, Tula.
TULA: A lot more was at work than just us.
IPOLA: It always is. I’m still proud of you. Both of you. My girls!
IPOLA: (To Mentl) And you.
MENTL: Your Majesty.
IPOLA: I need to balance a few things between us.
MENTL: Wha - no ma’am, you didn’t do anything …
IPOLA: I know what I did and what I didn’t do, Mentl. I also know what I bear responsibility for.
MENTL: You were just trying to look out for your people. I … freaked out. That’s on me, not you.
IPOLA: Yes it is, but not completely. I was afraid. I acted and spoke out of fear and I passed that fear on to you when there wasn’t anything to gain by it. To act out of fear alone is always an offense to the cha, no matter the cause. There are always consequences. And I owe you for my part in it.
MENTL: So - what do we do?
IPOLA: It can be very simple. Ask any honorable thing of me, and if it’s within my power I will grant it.
MENTL: Wow … well, I don’t need … I mean, you don’t have to. You -
ZONA: Yes, she does.
TULA: Yes. She does.
MENTL: Oh. Umm …
MENTL: Well, you know, now I think of it, yeah. There is something.
